On being mobbed

The account of an ongoing bid to harass a legal tenant out of her Seattle neighborhood

We should be offended

When the captains of a northeast neighborhood watch in Seattle conspire to force tenants out of single-family homes, we should be offended.

When real estate speculators, including home builders, house flippers and their real estate agents try to turn over properties by openly threatening and defaming home owners and their tenants, we should be offended.

When the response to a tenant who is being harassed and tries to get an order of anti-harassment is to get one against her and then systematically call the police on her until charges are filed against her, we should be offended.

When no one will listen to a tenant who is the victim of a criminal bullying situation because those who are bullying her tell the police she must be crazy, we should be offended. And when these same people make up wild stories and say, for example,  that she accused them of planting evil spirits in her microwave or that she covered all her windows with tinfoil, we should know better, and we should be suspicious of the purpose of such defamation.

And when the police and the courts do not question the things that a corrupt neighborhood watch and their real estate bullies say and do, when they instead discredit the tenant by moving to prosecute her or forcing her to have a mental exam, we should be offended.

And when we look the other way while this is happening to another human being, we should be ashamed.
