On being mobbed

“Mobbers found out for lying.” This was the search string I saw when I checked the On being mobbed stats the other day. One can only hope.

But the truth of the matter, is that the lies and misrepresentations of the corrupt real estate speculators who mob and the nasty neighborhood watch groups that support them are the window-dressing of mobbing. These lies and misrepresentations that real estate mobbers utter to police and prosecutor and in civil and criminal courtrooms, protect the mobbing and may result in the many losses of the victims of mobbing, losses ranging from the months and years of their lives, their aspirations and reputations, to their health and financial stability. But the lies that “property mobbers” utter are the least of the crimes for which they should be charged, prosecuted, and convicted.

In at least my own case here in northeast Seattle, mobbers are bullies whose scam relies on brutally harassing their victims in their own homes using methods that are tantamount to torture. Is or isn’t the low-frequency sound that permeates the entirety of the house of the mobbing victim infrasound? All that matters is that it’s inescapable. Is or isn’t the verbal abuse that overlays any and all audio devices of the victim caused by the malicious use of Yagi and other WiFi antennas deployed from next door or hidden in a nearby parked vehicle, or does the sound enter the victim’s environment through her router? It doesn’t make any difference when technology is being used to abuse you in your own home.

“Mobbers found out for lying.” When the issue is lying, the concern is usually with the law. It’s the police that mobbers have to worry about lying to. It’s the FBI that it could be a federal offense to lie to. If only the FBI or the local police would bother to question them. But bias seems to preclude law enforcement from even considering that white men who hold professional licenses and their neighborhood watch and developer friends might be involved in a criminal conspiracy to criminally harass their neighbors out of their home. And bias seems to eliminate the possibility that the Seattle police or the City of Seattle could recognize or acknowledge the real estate-fueled bullying of a single female tenant.

Is there no awareness of violence against women in Seattle? How many real estate speculators and neighborhood watch captains have to gang up one legal tenant before the Seattle police can recognize a bullying situation? And worse, what has to happen to a woman or a tenant in a bullying situation before the Seattle police no longer think it’s funny? How easy it must be for criminals to convince the Seattle police that their female victims are delusional. How deeply seated is misogyny. How sick must the female neighborhood watch captains in my neighborhood be that they would encourage and even participate in trying to frighten and effectively to batter other women out of their legal homes.

It’s the prosecutor who could file charges of obstruction against mobbers for the false accusations that trick them into prosecuting women the mobbers are stalking and harassing even in their beds. If only. If the lies and obstructions of the mobbers had resulted in their downfall and returned to me my privacy and my life, I would have taken it. And I would have expected the crime to unravel from there. If it took nothing more than lying for the mobbers to be found out, the mobbing would have stopped a long time ago. If only.

The issue is not at all with the truth of the matter, which is that mobbers shouldn’t get away with it, they shouldn’t have gotten away with it this long. I shouldn’t have had to pay for my resistance to a crime with more than five years of my life, not to mention the other ways in which I have been made to pay for what was always an act of conscience in which I have had to stand alone against an organized crime. The issue isn’t that the mobbers should have been found out immediately, and could still be, if only those in city or state government and in local police forces listened and responded to the complaints of legal residents, legal tenants, women who choose to live alone, and others who look like good victims for those who look for them. Because I told them. I reported. And as a result, I lost my job, I was treated as though I had lost my mind, false accusations were made against me, I was defamed, I was thrown out of an academic program for which I pay student loans every month, I was prosecuted, I was ridiculed, I was ignored, and even those I paid to defend me did not believe me. I reported. And still I continue to be harassed in my home, albeit sometimes with a bit more caution. The last week, the mobbing house owners and their roommates and partners don’t seem to be running outside to slam their car doors, click their key fobs, or drag their trash cans whenever I emerge from my home. But these harassments continue in other forms; any softening is probably anomalous and temporary. And the verbal abuse continues on my devices, when I use the sink on the south side or the shower on the north side, every night when I am in my bed, whenever and wherever they can deliver this harassment that may ultimately be mechanized through the coupling of triggers and transmitters.

The truth of the matter is that mobbers make a business of clandestine abuse, assault, intimidation, violence and domestic terror. This is what they should already have been “found out for.” This is what they should be convicted for. Because, in a society where people who trust in the rule of law expect to be able to dwell in any city, in any neighborhood, and in any home for which they hold a legal contract, criminals like these must be willing to go to great lengths to turn over properties for speculation. Criminals like these understand that it’s not easy to forcibly evict a woman and legal tenant who grew up believing she has the same rights as anyone else. Criminals like these know that sometimes, it takes a little terror.
