On being mobbed

The account of an ongoing bid to harass a legal tenant out of her Seattle neighborhood

A note on backdrafting, negative air pressure and residential vent systems

On being mobbed includes discussion about mobbers’ use of utility and other “flows” to turn over homes that speculators want. As I’ve talked about how they leverage utility and other flows into and out of the dwellings of their victims, I’ve brought up hearing the sound of ductwork flapping in heating and plumbing systems. I mentioned, for example, seeing a barometer in an Airtool (network data) collection at the Seattle house and wondering if the barometer figured in the machinations of my mobbing neighbors. And though it’s not the focus of this writing, mobbers are also concerned with flows of information, doing what they can to cap the flow of reporting that escapes victim homes, and interfering with its effluence over data channels and from the mouths of their victims.

Barometers measure air pressure. Duct flaps are all about the control of air pressure and the safe channeling of flows into and out of the residential domain. Flaps in exhaust systems maintain air pressure. When flaps are damaged or lost, air movement is allowed upward when the fan is shut down. This can mean that in rainy conditions, sewer gases—gases that travel through pipes and can be poisonous—travel upward with the negative air flow, into your environment. For broader discussion, see the Inspectapedia home inspection article, Backdrafting, Wet Weather and Causes of Sewage or Septic Odors.

In light of the recent deaths of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa, as well as other deaths that are curious or suspected to involve poisonous gases, I think about these flows and gases. I think about the snapping and flapping sounds in the middle of the night, sounds that might be amplified by smart phones carried too close to monkey wrenching operations as mobbers working from nearby locations harness the flows in victim buildings to transport audible harassment, to sabotage, and to harm.

After I replaced the gas furnace in the basement with a heat pump system in the attic, a technician came to test the system air pressure and flow. To do so, he used a technique that caused the heating vents to snap shut. Magnets and electromagnetism are often used to control devices and flows. Tampering with an analog electric meter to “steal electricity” was often done by slowing the metering disc with a magnet.

Flaps that are metal are subject to magnetic forces. Mobbers use magnetic forces and appear to create them using DC generators, WiFi and cellular extenders, and IoT systems (in their case, it’s an Internet of Malicious Things—IoMT). Significantly, mobbers leverage your electrical system to create or augment these forces—something that works particularly well when your house is electrified by the ungrounded knob-and-tube wiring system. Magnetic switches are common in medical devices including pumps and respiratory systems. In security systems, magnetic switching is used in motion detection systems, to detect the presence of intruders or, if you’re a mobber, the presence of your neighbor as she moves from room to room. MagneLink, Inc. describes the use of magnetic switches in home automation: “In home automation systems, magnetic systems allow for simple and convenient control of lights, heating and cooling, and other appliances. In addition, they may be connected to smart home systems, allowing the user to operate gadgets remotely via an app or voice-activated device (emphasis mine)” (https://www.magnelinkinc.com/solutions/magnetic-switches/magnetic-switch-master-guide/).

Mobbing is enabled by proximity, especially by the participation of neighbors who have good access to the side of your house where your electrical and communications systems are installed, and by the participation of neighbors whose sewer systems are serviced by the same sewer subsection as yours. See Sanitary Sewer System for public information on the sewer system in Albany, California. As of 2015 when Albany joined the Regional Private Sewer Lateral (PSL) program, home owners are required to have the private upper sewer lateral recertified when building or remodeling in excess of $100,000. Some exceptions to the maintenance rules are in effect for condominiums and HOA organizations.

Mobbers interfere with the flows into and out of victim homes, channeling radio frequency, smoke, exhaust, insecticides, rain and drain water, and more from their properties onto the properties of their victims. Proximity may enable the short-range use of magnetic or electromagnetic forces to systematically open and close the flaps of venting systems, creating negative pressure inside victim homes and driving poisons in to drive their victims out. This makes me wonder not only what it was that the Albany lowlife was trying to get “over there” in the middle of the night a few weeks back, but exactly where “over there” was. Utility finders illustrate the principle of “finding” metal [pipes] by transfer of radio frequency and are well understood in building sciences. Utility finders might be easily secreted in vehicles parked to ensure the flow of radio frequency over metal pipes that carry an inbound flow to the victim house. HVAC techs understand how to control ducting systems. Home inspectors and contractors use inexpensive thermal imaging cameras to detect air leaks and moisture problems. Cameras capture images where you point them.

What better way to cause criminal harm than to construct crimes that will appear to be the fault of a failed component, a poorly maintained heater, an improper installation, or a neglected building system. What better way to channel toxins into a structure—from above ground or below—than from the house next door. What better way to commit a crime than to leverage venting systems, to control them over a self-supplied DC microgrid using IoT enabled for continuous connection. What better way than to mine negative flows in the victim house to draw in poisonous matter. What better way to entrap poisonous flows in the homes of reluctant victims just long enough, and then to release them.
